At Wild Horse, we’ve always celebrated our official birthday as 31st March, that being the first ever brewday at Wild Horse HQ. With the turmoil of pub closures and then lockdown, our birthday plans got put on hold, and so our 5th birthday came and went without a celebration, and the birthday beers we had planned got put on hold. Now six months on, we’re wishing ourselves a belated happy 5th birthday and we’ve got a couple of very exciting beers to share with you.

Five years is not a long time, but in our fast-changing world of craft beer March 2015 does seem like a lifetime ago. It’s been incredible to see how much beer has changed over that period and how consumer tastes and expectations have changed too. Comparing our current beers to our original core range, which seemed modern and a little unconventional when we released them, demonstrates how much things have moved on.

Our original core range from 2015

To mark our 5th birthday, we got together (virtually of course) with a couple of our friends in the beer industry to brew two celebratory beers – Fallen Brewing from Stirling and Polly’s Brew Co from Mold. These are two breweries we really admire and we’re delighted with the results of these two collaborations. As a brewery we are constantly improving our brewing processes, ingredient selection and quality control so it’s been amazing working with these breweries who share a similar approach to continuous improvement.

We’ve known Fallen Brewing since the 3 Peaks Collaboration project last summer and we’re big fans of their beer. Being known for their dark beers, we thought that these guys were the perfect partners to help break our Imperial Stout duck and celebrate the occasion. 884 “The Cobbler” is a classically inspired Imperial Stout brewed with a complex, all-barley malt bill and liberally hopped with Cascade.

Our second collaboration is with our local friends Polly’s. Polly’s have created a worldwide reputation for top class hoppy pale ales and IPAs since they took the craft brewing world by storm when they opened in 2018 so we wanted to make this beer a real celebration of hops. The result is 554 “Moel Famau”; a hazy IPA with an all-star line-up of Nelson Sauvin and Citra.

Our fifth birthday beer releases

We hope that you enjoy these beers as they were made, in the (socially distanced) company of good friends. Thanks again for you continued support.
